About

Hi, I’m Robyn and I am a botanical printer, textile designer, educator and avid gardener.

I have always had a passion for textiles since childhood and remember studying my bedroom floral wallpaper as a child and knowing what my path in life would be, a textile designer. My formal training in Textile Design was acquired at both RISD and UMass Dartmouth. The beginning of my career involved designing both printed and woven fabrics for three different companies in Massachusetts, including Quaker Fabrics in Fall River.

As the textile industry in the US went overseas to India and China, I realized I needed to reinvent myself to continue being a productive artist. In 2021 I started my own small design business, Bippity Bop Design, where I create one-of-a-kind textiles using the Eco-Print technique, which is also known as Botanical Printing. This unusual technique allows the natural leaf pigments and tannins to permanently transfer to the fabric by using a steam process and a lot of patience! I use silk and wool fabric along with native leaves and blossoms, some from my own Dyer’s garden, to create scarves, wall hangings, table runners, and other usable items. A few of my favorite plants are dahlia, marigold, Japanese maple, and coreopsis flowers.

My years in the commercial textile world have helped to shape my current practice. Having a solid background in pattern repeat and color theory helps to elevate my artwork. Currently I have been showing my work at artisan fairs, in my studio during the South Coast Open Studio Tour and some small boutiques. I also teach workshops on Natural Dyeing, Botanical Printing and give in-person presentations to local organizations such as Garden Clubs and libraries.
